“Zen, it might be said, is the art of being ‘in form’ for everything, all the time. There is no blocking: all perfectly flows.”—Joseph Campbell, Oriental Mythology
“All perfectly flows.” I love that.
To live our lives free of reflection or hesitation. To be sure in our actions while indifferent to the outcome. To act with purity and unthinking wholeness.
To recognize in the upthrust, flowering and seeding of plants, in the ceaseless activity, foraging, sheltering and mating of animals and insects the equivalent of our aspirations, desires and loves, or thwarted, our bitternesses and despairs, is to begin to see into the grandest and profoundest mystery of Life.
What Flows through us and drives us forward, pulls us together into groups, communities, nations and civilizations and sets us savagely against others in groups outside of our own is what Flows through all plants and animals, insects and micro-organisms. And yes, it Flows through our most inexorably mortal enemies too.
For Life is one and we are one with the plants, animals, insects, micro-organisms, and yes, those ‘hostile’ groups outside our own we sometimes become locked in wars to the bitter end with.
All streams in the Flow of Life.
Zen is being one with the Flow…
Of Life.
