“All of God is in all things (although not totally, but in some more abundantly and in others less.) Because just as Divinity descends, in a certain manner, to the extent that one communicates with Nature, so one ascends to Divinity through Nature, as by means of a life resplendent in natural things one rises to the life that presides over them.”—Giordano Bruno, The Expulsion of the Triumphant Beast

Isn’t that beautiful? “All of God is in all things,” and “…one ascends to Divinity through Nature.” The sense that Life, all Life, is infused with God, with Life! That Nature itself is Divine!

Unfortunately, on February 16th, 1600 AD, the Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Office of the Inquisition burned Giordano Bruno alive for promulgating such heretic thoughts.

Now, that was a long time ago, over four hundred years. But what we don’t realize today is that we are still trying to recover from the spirit of those times and the crimes against humanity and Life that were committed in the name of this religion or that. We today still exploit the land and Nature and all peoples who do not see the world as we do. We with our much vaunted learning and technology fail to see the Divinity in all Life, our oneness with all life. We remain outside of the Wonder and not a fully engaged participant, and because of that we are alienated from both Life and ourselves.

Thankfully, today voices have arisen on all sides singing of the sanctity of Life. But it is an uphill climb at this stage because the message of the past still lingers deep in our souls, the message of a corrupt Nature that largely underpins much of our learning and technology, even our civilization.

Here at the Cafe we fully understand that we need keep the song of Life alive regardless of the naysayers.
