Ok, the colours aren’t popping yet. But it won’t be long. 

  Nevertheless crowds are out lining the Canal St. Martin and the nearby terrasses. The first few hours are for getting my bearings. 

  Quick stop to charge the electronic devices before hitting the streets again. The curse of modernity. 

  From here I’ll head south-south east along the Canal past where it veers south and skirts the Place de la Bastille until it runs smack into the Seine. There I’ll veer right and follow the north side of that ancient waterway past the Ile Saint-Louis, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Hotel de Ville and hopefully make it as far as the Louvre before veering right again and heading back. 

  That’ll be enough for the first day.
