Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot?!
“You must do your duty and perform this vision for your people upon earth.”—Words of Black Road to Black Elk, Black Elk Speaks
When I read that line it struck me and I quickly underlined it in my book (note, with a soft pencil). Powerful words, I thought: “do your duty and perform this vision for your people….”
When a group, a community or society has lost its way and become disconnected from the essential rhythms of Life it requires a rebalancing. But it is not the sort of ‘rebalancing’ that can be thought out, engineered, designed and implemented by a cadre of bright sharp minded intellectuals. That’s the sort of program that ends in disaster. Mainly because it is founded on ideas.
What’s more the rebalancing I am referring to here does not come at all from a message or teaching that can be thought out, engineered, or designed by TED talkers or ‘experts,’ social thinkers or philosophers.
No. Rather, it is a sort of rebalancing of the heart and soul, more deeply founded and stemming from a vision of Life itself and thus appealing powerfully to the inner lives of scattered, dissociated peoples.
Black Road counselled: “Do your duty and…PERFORM… this vision for your people.”
Perform the essential Truth….
That Life is ALL there is.
