I laughed when choosing an accompanying photo for this post. Montreal is filled with festively coloured murals all over the city. I love walking around and discovering new wonders splashed up on giant walls. This one caught my eye and I took a photo. Leaning toward using this image I noticed the ‘no parking’ sign and immediately knew that’s exactly what I was trying to say in the post. Don’t park, don’t stop or get hung up on any one specific image or teaching. They all point to Life and Life is in flow, just as we should be.
Let me repeat: should be.
So here’s the original post before choosing the photo:
Why do I include tags such as ‘yoga,’ ‘zen,’ and ‘poetry?’ Mainly because all are channels towards the same sense and experience of reality. They all emerge, spring forth, sprout, from the same source, which of course is none other than Life.
To me, they are interchangeable, and where and how you practice them is of less importance than how you practice them. That is, with what frame of mind and attitude of heart you approach them. The studio, temple, or quiet corner of your favourite library matters little, all can be sacred places when the spirit is upon us.
Our modern mania for classification and compartmentalization differentiates one from the others, and of course the yoga teacher, sensei, and poet see themselves as unique and specializing in a specific set of techniques, but were they honest or profound enough they would recognize that their aims are the same, just coming from differing directions you might say.
And that reminds me of something else.
I am fully aware that what I speak of here at the Omphalos Cafe defies categorization. What exactly is going on? Do I write of literature, history, philosophy, art, spirituality? None, and all, I would say. None as defined subjects of study, all as pointing towards something else, and all as actually emerging from that something else. So in a way I am merely tracing back lines from what appears to our modern eyes as specific and well-defined subjects to the source material lying behind them, the ‘something else.’
The ‘something else’ of course being Life.
After all, Life is….
